notes"The BM-21 family consists of multiple variants all based around the original Grad. The entire family is intended to perform the same role, engaging enemy forces with massed area fires. The entire family uses a standard launch system and the 122 mm rockets are produced by multiple countries. The BM-21 Grad-1 is a development of the original BM-21 designed to provide individual six vehicle batteries for individual motorized rifle and tank brigades. It is essentially the same as the BM-21 but carries fewer launch tubes. The most immediately obvious differentiating feature of the Grad-1 is the absence of four launch tubes from the rocket pack. Otherwise the bonnet has short and thick vertical slats in front of the radiator, no exhaust on the right of the bonnet, and small horizontal ventilation inlets on both sides of the bonnet close to the windshield."
